Avalanche transceivers

Avalanche Transceiver – your lifeline off-piste

What is it for?

An avalanche transceiver is a vital safety device for off-piste skiing or ski touring. Here’s how it works:

  • In normal conditions, each skier wears their transceiver in transmit mode, continuously sending out a signal.
  • If an avalanche occurs, the non-buried group members switch their device to “search” mode to pick up the signal of the buried skier.
  • This allows them to quickly locate anyone trapped under the snow.

Why is it essential?

In an avalanche, every second counts—the chances of survival drop dramatically after 15 minutes.
That’s why an avalanche transceiver, paired with a probe and shovel, forms the essential safety trio for venturing into avalanche-prone areas.

Where can you learn to use an Avalanche Transceiver ?

Having a transceiver is a good start—knowing how to use it could save a life.
In Valmorel, there are two great ways to learn:

The DVA Park :

A free and accessible training area, specially designed for practising avalanche victim search techniques. Using buried beacons that simulate burials, you can test your reflexes and improve your skills independently.
